The Los Pastos civilization emerged around 800 AD and reached its peak between 1200 and 1500 AD.
They created beautiful ceramics with elaborate geometric designs and used gold and copper to craft jewelry and ceremonial objects.
The arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century led to the decline of the Los Pastos civilization as they were subjected to colonization and the devastating impacts of European diseases. However, aspects of their cultural heritage, including their agricultural techniques and artistic traditions, continue to influence the Andean region to this day. Efforts to preserve and study the legacy of the Los Pastos culture are ongoing, contributing to a greater understanding of the rich pre-Columbian history of the region.

Care information
• Rutine care first — Gently shake out.
• Handle spills promptly — Spot clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Always blot gently and avoid rubbing the fibers.
• Keep it dry — Fique is a natural plant fiber and should not be exposed to excessive moisture. Do not machine wash or dry clean.
• Air dry fully — If the mat becomes damp, allow it to dry completely in a well-ventilated area before placing it back.
• Use with a rug pad — Placing a rug pad underneath helps keep the mat securely in place and prevents slipping.
• Natural fiber behavior — Light shedding may occur at first and will gradually subside with regular use.
